FAQs

What can I expect from working with you?

Treatment tailored to address your needs. Authenticity, honesty and compassion. Cultivation of a partnership where we both show up ready to work on your goals. Sessions focused on meeting you where you are and helping you move forward to where you’d like to be.

My therapeutic work aims to help you gain insight, elevate self-esteem, reduce problematic symptoms, enhance coping skills, improve communication skills, and develop lasting strategies for navigating this world in a manner that feels right for you. There may be use of worksheets, between-session activities, and brief symptom assessments. You can expect regular check-ins about our progress and encouragement to give honest feedback.

What happens during an intake assessment?

The intake assessment will be a time for us to gain a broad overview of your history, current concerns, and goals for the future. We cover a lot of ground during intake, so 90 minutes are scheduled for us to complete it. Prior to this assessment, I will provide you with intake forms that will allow you to reflect and write down important information that will guide us through the assessment process. I also encourage you to jot down any additional questions you’d like to pose before our treatment process is underway. I’ll ask about topics such as family, education, health, identity, stressors, strengths, and hopes. Together we’ll narrow down your treatment goals, and create a plan for working towards them collaboratively.

How do you maintain privacy in a virtual setting?

I utilize HIPAA-compliant client management/telehealth software, and I’ll have a thorough discussion with you on privacy practices (including confidentiality, mandatory reporting and other exceptions required by law) once we begin our work together.

How long and how frequent are therapy sessions?

After the 90-minute intake assessment session, additional follow-up sessions are generally 55 minutes long. In the beginning, therapy sessions will occur weekly to help us build momentum and consistency in working towards your goals. Alternative frequencies and/or lengths are dependent on treatment needs and can be addressed on an individual basis.

Do you take insurance?

Yes! I accept most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

I’d like to work with you, but my insurance isn’t on your list. Is it still possible for us to work together?

Absolutely! You have the option to pay for services out of pocket at a rate of $175 per intake assessment and $145 per 55-minute session. Please note that these rates will increase to $185 and $155 respectively starting July 1, 2024. If you’d like to see whether your insurance will reimburse you for your out-of-pocket expenses, you can inquire about your out-of-network benefits within your insurance plan. These benefits can vary based on your plan (from partial to full reimbursement) and will typically require that I create a detailed receipt called a “superbill” for you to present to your insurance company. You will also be provided with a Good Faith Estimate detailing your cost of care.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept all major credit/debit cards, as well as Health Savings Accounts (HSA). Payments are due at the time of service and will be processed through a secure client portal. Due to the virtual nature of our practice, you will be asked to keep a card on file for billing. I am unable to accept cash or checks.

What’s your cancellation policy?

No-shows and cancellations occurring less than 24 hours prior to the start of the scheduled appointment will result in a $100 fee.

Are there any general limits to who you can work with?

At this time, I am only providing individual therapy to those aged 18+. Due to licensure regulations, I can only work with clients who are physically located in the state of Michigan at the time of service.

How can I see if we’d be a good fit?

Fit is such an important consideration in seeking out a therapist, and you deserve to find a provider who is a great fit for your treatment needs! Because of this, I offer a free 15-minute consultation call to provide more information about my practice, experience, and current availability, as well as to answer any additional questions you may have. From there, we will determine whether I can provide the fit you are seeking. If you’d like to request a consultation call, please fill out the contact form found here!
